Axiado develops an AI-based security processor for servers in network switches and 5G infrastructure

Cybersecurity solutions company Axiado Corporation has announced the development of AI-based security processors. Embedding machine learning models in chips that are used near at the network edge closest to users could help slow the spread of malware on enterprise networks by detecting problems more quickly. Such chips are expected to be used in equipment in a variety of locations, including edge datacenters and 5G network equipment.

The company has introduced the AX3000 and AX2000 trusted control and compute units, which leverage AI for enhanced protection. The security processors are designed to detect and stop ongoing attacks as well as recover the system after an attack by isolating it from the network.

The solution combines AI-based threat mitigation with hardware fingerprints that enable forensic analysis.

By using their Secure AI technology, the hardware security platform effectively safeguards both itself and the primary processor against various types of attacks, including side channel, network, and other peripheral-based threats. During regular server operation, the platform utilizes AI and machine learning to monitor and optimize variations in clock, voltage, and current, enabling the detection of anomalies. Axiado emphasizes that this comprehensive security solution is implemented at the lowest layer of the hardware stack, consolidating all the necessary security capabilities into a single module.

“Our TCU is a game changer that delivers a lower cost of ownership than any other alternative in the market. We look forward to collaborating with ODMs and OEMs, cloud service providers, and the entire security ecosystem to help make the world’s digital infrastructure safer and more secure,” says Gopi Sirineni, President and CEO of Axiado Corporation.

Axiado has sampled the module enclosed in a 23×23 BGA package, which integrates several components such as a baseboard management controller, a trusted platform module, a hardware security module, and a SmartNIC. The TCU has been developed to benefit manufacturers and cloud service providers in implementing security measures for edge infrastructure, particularly in large-scale enterprise deployments.

Axiado is providing early access to their AX3000/AX2000 TCUs for partners involved in wireless base stations, wired security applications, and next-gen smart edge gateways. The company plans to showcase these security processors during the Computex 2023 in Taipei, Taiwan, which will take place from May 30 to June 2, 2023.

“We are very pleased to have Axiado actively participate in the Open Compute Project (OCP) Community by taking the OCP-approved Datacenter Secure Control Module Specification (DC-SCM) and building a product compliant with this specification,” says George Tchaparian, CEO of Open Compute Project.

According to Jas Tremblay, vice president and general manager of the Data Center Solutions Group at Broadcom, the inclusion of the Axiado TCU security processor brings advanced cybersecurity capabilities to the data center environment. Tremblay further adds the significance of integrating AI techniques, particularly in the face of escalating cyber threats.
