Aetina, Fibocom integrate 5G connectivity in edge AI computing platforms

Taiwan-based Aetina Corporation has announced a partnership with Fibocom, an IoT wireless communication modules provider, to accelerate the adoption of 5G capabilities in edge IoT devices. Aetina has been developing several embedded devices built around the Nvidia Jetson modules, including its DeviceEdge Mini series. As part of the collaboration, Aetina’s embedded hardware platform will incorporate the Fibocom FM160 5G communication module to enable developers to build next-gen edge applications.

The partnership aims to provide embedded engineers and hobbyists with a 5G network-equipped Nvidia Jetson-powered hardware platform for real-time decision-making. There has been increasing adoption of computer vision and security surveillance applications that use edge computing technology for faster insights. Aetina and Fibocom said their collaboration will offer robust connectivity with improved coverage.

“Our collaboration with Aetina reflects Fibocom’s commitment to building out the AIoT world,” said Simon Tao, general manager with Fibocom. “By bringing 5G capacities to the edge, AIoT can deliver on the full promise of its potential, ushering in a new era of massive connectivity that will revolutionize how we live, work and play.”

The Fibocom FM160 features 3GPP release 16 capabilities and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon X62 modem chipset to deliver maximum downlink rates of up to 3.5Gbps and uplink rates of 900Mbps. The 5G supported FM160 module optimizes user experience with extended coverage, improved throughput, and increased capacity, according to the company.

Among several Aetina embedded hardware modules, the Aetina AN810-NXN is designed with the Nvidia Jetson Xavier NX module for high performance and low power edge AI computing. The flexibility through M.2 expansion gives the ability to interface communication modules.

“Aetina has been building a wide and strong ecosystem network in the global edge AI industry,” said Austin Lin, Jetson Series product division head, Aetina. “This partnership with Fibocom benefits our clients with their growing demand of developing reliable AI platforms with real-time connectivity at the edge.”

Last year, Aetina Corporation announced a new edge AI-powered computer, the DeviceEdge Mini series to leverage the Nvidia Jetson edge AI platform capabilities. The DeviceEdge Mini offers multiple options and SKUs to enable developers to build and deploy edge AI applications.
