OpenAI and Armada join forces to deliver edge AI to remote industrial sites

Armada, an edge computing infrastructure company and OpenAI have officially inked a strategic collaboration to provide smaller, application-specific AI models for large scale real-world edge use cases.

Utilizing Armada’s Galleons (modular data centers) and Edge Platform (AEP), efficient AI model deployment for bandwidth-restricted environments will be attainable.

OpenAI’s open-weight model, gpt-oss-120b, was tested on Armada’s infrastructure and its availability is assured.

“With Armada, we’re bringing the power of frontier AI directly to the edge making it possible for organizations to act on data instantly, wherever it’s generated,” says Ashley Kramer, head of revenue at OpenAI. “This is another step toward unlocking AI’s full potential to help industries move faster, build trust, and scale with confidence.”

The collaboration targets such industries as oil & gas, mining, public safety and defence with real-time analytics solutions and secure scalable AI.

The two firms are aiming to perfect energy-efficient AI and create advanced explainability tools that increase trust and accountability to enable global data sovereignty compliance and allow organizations to take immediate action on data at the edge.

Armada enables easy management of data and deploys AI models in disconnected, remote environments. The partnership supports responsible adoption of AI and aims to shift how organizations use data for operational efficiency and innovation.

Earlier this year Armada secured $131M to scale modular AI data centers for edge deployments.
