Lenovo offers Sunlight.io as it expands portfolio of edge computing solutions

Lenovo has entered into a reseller agreement with Sunlight.io, an edge infrastructure company, to expand its edge computing portfolio. The deal marks an important milestone for Sunlight as it seeks to expand its sales channels via companies like Lenovo, which is the world’s fourth-largest server vendor by revenue.

Under this agreement, Lenovo will integrate Sunlight.io’s edge-to-core HyperConverged edge stack and NexCenter infrastructure manager with its edge computing hardware devices. By signing the contract, Lenovo can provide customers with “Edge Computing-as-a-Service” solutions incorporating Sunlight technology.

According to Lenovo, this integration of Sunlight’s solutions will benefit customers seeking edge infrastructure for data-intensive applications. Sunlight.io edge solutions are compatible with Lenovo’s ThinkEdge and ThinkSystem and are designed to meet specific use case requirements.

“We’re delighted that Sunlight, a Lenovo AI Innovator Partner, has agreed to Lenovo becoming a reseller as we accelerate the development of edge computing solutions – including the first HyperConverged stack supporting the Nvidia Jetson-based Lenovo ThinkEdge SE70 to make Edge AI deployable at scale,” says Blake Kerrigan, the senior director of ThinkEdge Business Group at Lenovo.

Sunlight.io was named a ‘2022 Gartner Cool Vendor in Edge Computing’ for its work in addressing edge computing challenges. The Sunlight.io HyperConverged Edge is a bare-metal virtualization platform combining processing power, storage and networking capabilities into a single system. The NexCenter is a centralized platform with a single interface to manage and monitor edge resources.

Lenovo has developed edge computing devices tailored to the IoT industry under its ThinkEdge and ThinkSystem product lines. The ThinkEdge devices have a compact design, high processing power, integrated security and an industrial-grade structure. According to Lenovo, the company expanded its ThinkEdge portfolio with the SE70 model. It is based on the Nvidia Jetson Xavier NX platform and meets the demand of logistics, transportation and smart cities. In contrast, the ThinkSystem is a rack server that provides data center-level scalability.

“The reseller agreement with Lenovo gives enterprises and partners the choice of off-the-shelf and t-shirt-sized edge computing solutions to meet their needs,” says Andy Brewerton, the COO at Sunlight. “For Sunlight, the agreement gives us a sophisticated route to market for our solution, including access to a global Lenovo sales team and channel network.”

Sunlight.io recently partnered with Onteon to incorporate the Onteon platform with the Sunlight.io AppLibrary, allowing users to deploy and manage legacy applications at edge locations.
