HPE acquires Juniper Networks in an all-cash deal for $14 billion

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has made a strategic move to strengthen its networking capabilities by acquiring Juniper Networks and leveraging advanced technologies such as AI and cloud computing. The acquisition, valued at approximately $14 billion in an all-cash transaction, is not only financially prudent but is also expected to accelerate long-term revenue growth.

HPE is confident that the combination of its AI-native networks expertise with Juniper Networks’ cloud-delivered networking solution will expand its existing portfolio into a more lucrative market segment. The goal is to provide modernized networking solutions capable of efficiently handling the complexities and demands of today’s technological landscape.

Crucial to this acquisition is Juniper Networks’ Mist AI and Cloud platform, which helps businesses in managing their cloud infrastructure. When combined with HPE Aruba Networking, this integration will create the way for advanced networking solutions that bring cloud-native capabilities and AI management and control for hybrid cloud environments.

“We look forward to working with the talented HPE team to drive innovation for enterprise, service provider, and cloud customers across all domains, including campus, branch, data center, and the wide area network,” says Rami Rahim, chief executive officer at Juniper Networks.

HPE highlights that this strategic decision will allow them to collect, analyze, and take action based on aggregated telemetry data, improving the end-user experience and streamlining network operations. Furthermore, this acquisition will provide a more comprehensive solution to Juniper’s existing customer base, which includes enterprises, communication service providers, and cloud clients.

The completion of the purchase is expected in late 2024 or early 2025, depending upon obtaining regulatory and shareholder approvals.

“HPE’s acquisition of Juniper represents an important inflection point in the industry and will change the dynamics in the networking market and provide customers and partners with a new alternative that meets their toughest demands,” says Antonia Neri, president and chief executive officer at HPE.

In a related development, Juniper Networks has recently announced the launch of a new distributed security service architecture for edge data centers. The expansion of its Connected Security portfolio will equip companies to extend security services and implement zero-trust policies throughout their distributed data center environments.
