PX5, Percepio join forces to provide deep visibility into embedded IoT applications

PX5, a high performance real-time operating systems and middleware company, has partnered with Percepio, a provider of observability tools tailored for critical edge software, to combine PX5 RTOS with Percepio Tracealyzer.

This merger aims to enable embedded developers to gain insights into the behavior of the system. The observability solution allows developers to monitor their IoT application in real-time, facilitating the efficient identification and resolution of issues, according to both companies.

The integration will include support for native POSIX pthreads+, which offers compatibility across various operating systems. Pthreads is a library designed for multi-threading within POSIX-compliant systems. The combination of PX5 RTOS and Percepio Tracealyzer has been crafted to function on resource-constrained devices, making it suitable for a wide range of IoT applications.

“This integration allows manufacturers and their development teams to accelerate the development of safe, secure, and reliable products through a deep understanding of what their applications are actually doing,” says Johan Kraft, founder and chief technology officer at Percepio.

PX5 RTOS represents the fifth-generation operating system, tailored for IoT applications, featuring improved characteristics in terms of size, performance, safety and security. The companies also note that the operating system provides support for synchronization mechanisms such as semaphores, mutexes, and message queues, in addition to offering real-time extensions like event flags and memory management features.

Additionally, the Percepio Tracealyzer tool equips developers to capture detailed traces of software execution over a long period of time, spanning from hours to days. This capability proves advantageous for various purposes, including testing, performance profiling, and investigation sporadic errors.

“PX5 RTOS is purpose-built to deliver safety, security, and portability benefits to devices across all IoT sectors, and Tracealyzer adds even more robust capabilities to see exactly what takes place before a system crash and understand firmware better to enhance and optimize applications,” adds William Lamie, chief executive officer at PX5.

The Trace Snapshort feature integrates with the Percepio DevAlert cloud service, facilitating the remote monitoring of deployed IoT devices to identify issues and support debugging.
