Ambarella, eInfochips to offer design, development services for edge applications

Ambarella, an edge AI semiconductor company, has partnered with Arrow Electronics’ eInfochips, a provider of product engineering services, to accelerate the adoption of Ambarella’s CVflow edge AI SoC platform. Through the collaboration, Ambarella aims to provide comprehensive design and development services to its partner ecosystem for next-gen AI camera products.

Executives say eInfochips will use its engineering experience and resources to support the rapidly growing AI IoT application deployment across robotics, access control, commercial, security, video conferencing and healthcare.

Ambarella believes there is a massive growth opportunity in the edge AI market, especially with computer vision applications. With this relationship with eInfochips, they can provide design development services for imaging, hardware and edge software. The customers can leverage Ambarella’s computer vision technology and eInfochips’ design resources to speed up the prototyping and evaluation process.

“Arrow Electronics eInfochips’ proven design expertise will allow Ambarella to more readily penetrate new markets, including robotics, access control, and ML cameras and grow our mutual customer base,” stated Chris Day, vice president of marketing and business development for Ambarella.

According to executives, eInfochips also has expertise in 2D imaging and 3D depth sensing, along with a reusable camera framework for rapid development. The company has had experience in the past with Ambarella SoCs, allowing them to now provide services that include design and development based on Ambarella’s CVflow edge AI SoC families. These families include CV2, CV5, CV22, CV25 and finally CV28M.

Arrow Electronics’ eInfochips has been providing product engineering services for 25 years, covering a wide range of camera technology and protocols. Ambarella believes its experience gives its customers an edge in prototyping and manufacturing.

The companies said this collaboration provides also provides access to multi-sensor camera design and video analytics, camera SDK and system software development, image sensor tuning, as well as AI/ML algorithm porting and machine vision enablement.

Ambarella’s partnership with eInfochips allows companies to create next-gen AI perception product applications. They can take full advantage of Ambarella’s SoC which features high performance per watt for deep learning, advanced image processing and video compression.

“The combination of Ambarella’s CVflow AI processor families with eInfochips’ significant perception design expertise in a wide variety of IoT applications will help drive the rapid AI growth in this market,” said Lian Jye Su, ABI Research’s research director for AI.

Earlier this year, Ambarella released its new CV3 AI domain controller family during CES 2022.

These components, part of Ambarella’s scalable and power-efficient CVflow family of SoCs, were created to provide the automotive industry with high AI processing performance.

According to Ambarella, the CV3 AI allows for the development of autonomous driving systems (ADSs), from basic Advanced Driver Assistance Systems to Level 4 AVs. This provides support for a broad range of applications that rely on sensing and path planning, with enhanced perception abilities that allow it to function well even in difficult lighting or weather, the company says.
