OSS expands global reach with submarine sonar processing deal

One Stop Systems (OSS) has been commissioned to design and develop prototypes for a sonar data processing system tailored for a foreign navy’s submarine application.

OSS is working on a liquid-cooled high-performance compute solution designed for submarine deployment. This system uses the power of two Gen 4 AMD EPYC CPUs and four PCI Express 4.0 GPUs. Its primary goal is to minimize noise and maximize cooling efficiency in a marine environment. The primary contractor will provide an AI-powered sonar processing application.

OSS CEO Mike Knowles recognizes the company’s ability to deliver a robust edge processing solution that combines datacenter-level processing power with adherence to requirements for SWAP, thermal management and noise control.

“The win also reflects our progress in leveraging OSS Europe to expand our global reach and customer base,” states Knowles.

OSS plans to deliver the initial prototypes by year-end, with the possibility of production orders in 2024.

One Stop Systems designs and manufactures high-performance compute and storage products that enable rugged AI, sensor fusion and autonomous capabilities. Their products are used in various industries and applications, such as autonomous trucking, farming, defense, aircraft, drones, ships and vehicles. OSS says its solutions cover the entire AI workflow, from data acquisition to deep learning, training, and large-scale inference.

In January, OSS was in the news for securing a $3 million contract from the U.S. Department of Defense Missile Defense Agency to upgrade a radar simulation system.

The company says the upgrade involved integrating the OSS 4UV compute accelerator system into existing mobile radar systems and data centers. This is expected to improve system performance by utilizing AI algorithms to create virtual simulations, thereby increasing the precision and speed of missile defense systems.

Preceding the Department of Defense announcement, OSS unveiled a five-year contract extension with the U.S. Navy to integrate its portable flash storage arrays.
