Network edge roundup: Cloudflare for Buildings; Telstra and Azure connect; Megaport and Versa for SASE

In networking services news this week, Cloudflare announced an extension of its network to bring its edge solutions to the office building and Telstra unveiled a new partnership with Microsoft to provide customers a direct connection to Azure services. In addition, Megaport released a new solution to enable branch-to-cloud connectivity on the company’s Software Defined Network (SDN).

Cloudflare extends edge network to office buildings

Cloudflare said it is creating various strategic partnerships to extend its network into over 1,000 of the world’s busiest office buildings as well as multi-dwelling units.

Cloudflare for Offices will runs on the edge from the nearest data center directly to the user making the request.

The serverless platform’s first deployment will take place in two locations in New York, as well as in Chicago, Boston, and San Francisco.

The new edge network, which Cloudflare is planning to expand substantially in the coming months, will reportedly aid IT teams can enforce a consistent security posture while also enabling flexible work environments for employees.

“We see a lot of potential in the way Cloudflare is bringing its network directly to our office locations,” said Aaron Dearinger, Edge Architect at Garmin International, according to a Cloudflare blog post announcing the service Cloudflare’s.

“It’s critical that we empower our employees to work productively and securely, and this makes it that much easier for us to do so no matter where our teams are working from in the future–and reducing our network costs along the way,” he concluded.

The solution will provide a direct connection to Cloudflare’s network, placing all office traffic behind the company’s services, and erasing the need for expensive hardware and software solutions.

Telstra partners with Microsoft Azure Peering

Telstra and Microsoft will collaborate to provide enterprise customers with end-to-end, high-performing public connectivity with optimal routing in their selected region.

The new offering is part of the Telstra Global Internet Direct (GID)’s network, which is built to ensure customers reliable connectivity service and secure access through a single network.

“Microsoft Azure Peering Service provides direct access between Telstra and Microsoft’s networks – providing users with robust connectivity service at a location nearest to them, thereby reducing latency when accessing Microsoft’s workplace services,” explained Sanjay Nayak, Telstra Executive of Fixed Connectivity Products.

From a geographical standpoint, Telstra confirmed it is now offering Azure Peering Service to customers in Asia, with availability in Europe and the United States planned for the next year.

“By leveraging Telstra’s connectivity and professional services capabilities and Microsoft’s focus on intelligent cloud services, we aim to help organizations across the region and globally enable a modern work experience,” Nayak concluded.

Megaport releases Versa Secure SD-WAN

Versa Secure SD-WAN will be part of Versa SASE and will run on the Megaport Virtual Edge (MVE) network.

The new solution is designed to enable branch-to-cloud connectivity on Megaport’s global SDN, to bypass customers’ dependence on end-to-end internet connections to key services and resources.

“Our collaboration with Megaport provides customers a unique way to deploy intelligent, high-speed network connectivity from distributed enterprise locations to the cloud,” explained Rahul Vaidya, Senior Product Manager with Versa Networks.

The companies said taht Versa Secure SD-WAN enables customers to host localized virtual SD-WAN via VOS (Versa Operating System) on Megaport’s global platform. This, in turn, reduces the distance data has to traverse over internet paths from branch locations to critical services in public or private clouds, as well as from other branch locations.

Once deployed, the new solution grants companies access to Megaport’s ecosystem of more than 700 enabled data centers worldwide, which counts over 360 service providers.

“As part of our industry-leading Versa SASE services, the integration of Versa Secure SD-WAN with Megaport Virtual Edge will further help organizations transform their network edge with secure, scalable, and reliable enterprise-wide networking increasing multi-cloud application performance and dramatically driving down costs,” Vaidya concluded.
