Lumen Technologies launches edge computing solutions in APAC

Lumen Technologies, a global provider of fiber network solutions and services, announced the launch of its edge computing solutions in the Asia-Pacific region (APAC). The new services include Lumen Edge Bare Metal, a dedicated, pay-as-you-go server hardware solution. According to the company, it delivers excellent application performance from running on edge nodes with five milliseconds or less latency over the Lumen fiber network. The company says that the new technology will allow customers to focus on creating applications rather than on time-consuming infrastructure deployment.

The service will leverage edge locations in Singapore and Japan and Lumen’s highly connected network in APAC. “We are excited to bring our edge computing solutions to the fast-growing APAC market,” said Francis Thangasamy, managing director of Lumen Technologies APAC. “So much here is leading-edge. The region has a strong presence of enterprise customers using blockchain technologies to drive innovation.”

The first deployment of Lumen’s edge bare metal service in APAC took place in Singapore and Japan for a global blockchain nonprofit organization, the Solana Foundation. Lumen’s service provides the Solana Foundation with high-speed edge computing infrastructure for node operations and developers on its network. This support assists the organization’s global community of blockchain validators, application programming interface providers and developers.

Other services in this region include Lumen Edge Private Cloud, a pre-built private cloud computing service connected to its global fiber network. With 643,000 international route kilometers of fiber, including subsea cable networks, the Lumen network is one of the world’s most vast and connected.

“APAC customers across key industries such as retail, manufacturing and financial services can now deploy applications and workloads that demand ultra-low latency at the edge. Our Lumen services deliver efficient and reliable operations that can keep this momentum going,” added Thangasamy.

Lumen also recently launched its Lumen Edge Virtual Machines (VM) to provide organizations with an on-demand, flexible solution for compute power at the edge. With Lumen Edge Virtual Machines (VM, Lumen says companies can get the resources they need to run high-performing applications, including on-demand storage, compute and secure networking.
