DE-CIX partners with EdgeConneX to expand edge data center presence in U.S. and Spain

EdgeConneX announced a new partnership with Internet Exchange (IX) operator DE-CIX that will see DE-CIX expanding its carrier and data center neutral IX platform.

DE-CIX will locate its IX platform into multiple EdgeConneX data centers, including in Phoenix, AZ, Richmond, VA, and Barcelona, Spain, the companies said.

The move will increase the availability of DE-CIX and its connectivity options for customers worldwide, according to Aron Smith, vice president of product management at EdgeConneX.

“With many networks, cable operators, CDNs, cloud on-ramps, and internet exchanges available in EdgeConneX, we look forward to continuing to grow our network ecosystems at the Edge with DE-CIX, which operates one of the largest global IX platforms available today in the world,” Smith added.

From a technical standpoint, the joint operation between the companies will enable DE-CIX to provide EdgeConneX with essential local peering and connectivity to cloud and content providers as well as advanced commerce tools.

Moreover, the partnership will provide EdgeConneX customers with access to the world’s largest carrier and data center neutral interconnection ecosystem via DE-CIX GlobePEER Remote solution, which at the time of writing enables access to roughly 2100 networks.

“These interconnected exchanges offer the lowest latency paths and instant interconnection with thousands of networks around the world, including state-of-the-art interconnection services for both wholesale and enterprise networks of all sizes,” explained DE-CIX CEO Ivo Ivanov.

“EdgeConneX is a trusted partner, both in the United States and worldwide. We’re delighted to expand our presence to more markets with EdgeConneX as we continue to scale our interconnection platform globally.”

The collaboration with EdgeConneX comes exactly one year after DE-CIX announced it had established interconnections with Vapor IO’s Kinetic Edge platform.

More recently, the company revealed plans to ramp up efforts related to bringing edge computing technologies to the car manufacturing industry.

Other edge applications, highlighted by Ivanov in a guest post on EdgeIR include agriculture via 5G and other IoT devices and sensors.
