DataBank expands with new data center in Salt Lake City

DataBank, an enterprise-class data center, connectivity, and managed service provider, opened its newest Salt Lake City data center, SLC6. The company says the data center will support the rapidly increasing demand for mission-critical IT infrastructure in Salt Lake City and the Utah market.

SLC6 is located on DataBank’s Granite Point Campus in Bluffdale, between downtown Salt Lake City and Utah’s Silicon Slopes. Direct fiber links the campus to DataBank’s SLC1 data center and carrier hotel. The company says it provides a stable and scalable location.

“Utah is quickly becoming one of the fastest growing tech hubs in the US,” said Tony Qorri, DataBank’s vice president of construction. “The state’s prime real estate, low cost of living, and deep technology talent pool make it an ideal location for start-ups. Additionally, its internet speeds are among the fastest in the nation, which is attractive to start-ups as well as enterprises.”

When completed, the 171,000 square foot expansion will add 100,000 square feet of raised flooring. Fifty thousand square feet of this will be available immediately. The project also establishes two new data halls. A total of 11 megawatts of power are currently available, with an additional 11 to come in the future.

SLC6 was created with the customer, with various amenities and security features to provide them peace of mind. For example, it meets compliance requirements for HIPAA, PCI-DSS, SOC1 and SOC2, GDPR, and FISMA.

According to the company, since the facility is next to four other DataBank data centers on the Granite Point campus, it makes it easy for clients to expand their capacity. Additionally, the company says that customers can leverage existing staff and resources.

“Bringing this additional capacity to the Silicon Slopes deepens our roots in the region,” says Qorri. “This aligns well with DataBank’s growth strategy and our dedication to providing our customers with world-class IT infrastructure.”

The new data center will open in October, with a grand opening on November 15.

DataBank was recently nominated for a 2022 Global Carrier Award in the Best Data Center and Edge Innovation category. The past year was a banner one for the company, with growth in existing markets, several vital acquisitions and collaborations.

For instance, DataBank obtained 18 acres of land in Atlanta, Georgia, and an existing data center facility. The company also collaborated with Corsa Security, a firewall virtualization software vendor based in Ottawa, to deliver managed virtual firewall services. Furthermore, DataBank recently established a reseller agreement with Radware. Radware provides network edge security and application delivery solutions to help prevent DDoS attacks.
