AtlasEdge furthers its European expansion with Datacenter One acquisition in Germany

AtlasEdge, a European data center provider, has announced the successful acquisition of Datacenter One, a German company providing regional data center facilities. In all, AtlasEdge acquired four data centers across Germany, including two in Stuttgart, one in Dusseldorf and another in Leverkusen. To meet local demand for infrastructure deployment closer to the end user, there are additional sites in development, the company says.

The acquisition will help AtlasEdge to extend its reach in Germany’s regional regions as a key data center market. Given the ever-growing demand for colocation services in Germany, Datacenter One has experienced significant growth. In response to this opportunity, AtlasEdge made a sizable investment in the country.

“Acquiring DC1 transforms AtlasEdge into Germany’s leading distributed platform, with ready-to-sell capacity in key locations across the country,” said Giuliano Di Vitantonio, CEO of AtlasEdge. “We look forward to working with our new colleagues and continuing to grow our footprint across the continent.”

Datacenter One’s purpose-built facilities complement AtlasEdge’s existing operations in Berlin and Hamburg, the company says. The facilities also increase AtlasEdge’s capabilities to serve customers across five regional German markets. AtlasEdge capitalizes on the expanding edge deployments in Europe and growing customer demand for more digitally connected infrastructure.

That said, the acquisition won’t affect the senior management team at Datacenter One. These executives have a thorough understanding of the German market and a track record of successfully developing data center facilities. Following the strategic transaction, Wolfgang Kaufmann, the CEO at Datacenter One, will join AtlasEdge’s management team.

“The joint expertise of DC1 and AtlasEdge, together with the increased scale and customer offering that this deal enables is a real win,” said Wolfgang Kaufmann, CEO of Datacenter One. “We have experienced first-hand the rising demand and growth potential in the German market, and this is a fantastic next step for us. Our combined locations, ethos and ambition are all the right ingredients, and we’re very excited to be joining AtlasEdge.”

The acquisition is pending regulatory approval and is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2022.

This is AtlasEdge’s second data center acquisition in Europe in 2022. The company acquired a data center in Leeds, England, earlier this year. AtlasEdge also acquired twelve Colta data centers in Europe in 2021, including data centers in Amsterdam, Berlin, Barcelona, Brussels, Copenhagen, Hamburg, London, Milan, Madrid, Paris and Zurich.
