Verizon and Atos partner for private 5G and the edge in Europe

Verizon is teaming up with systems integrator Atos to bring a 5G edge solution to the market. The US carrier doesn’t have a spectrum license in Europe, so the carrier and Atos will be looking to build out private 5G deployments for enterprises based locally or for Verizon’s global client base.

The joint offering will combine Atos’ Computer Vision platform with Verizon’s private 5G multi-access edge computing, and will provide a core-to-edge architecture, enabling customers to fully deploy 5G environments on the edge of their networks.

The Atos platform is an AI-powered video analytics tool and in combination with Atos’ edge servers and Verizon’s private 5G, it will give customers the ability to run large-scale cloud and AI-powered data analytics. Verizon and Atos say the platform will be able to analyze 180 billion data points per hour.

The product is targeted at the transport, manufacturing and logistics industries where it will be able to increase efficiencies, say by identifying patterns in business operations and hence predicting downtime up to thirty days in advance.
