Scale Computing helps the maritime industry with HyperCore edge solutions

Scale Computing says it is experiencing ongoing momentum in the maritime industry with its edge computing solutions, SC Platform and SC HyperCore. These solutions enable maritime providers such as Northern Marine and Telford Offshore to run their critical IT applications on edge networks, the company says.

Edge computing technology is an important component of the maritime industry’s future success, as it will empower a wide range of maritime services. According to the company, Scale Computing’s edge solutions can help the sector by simplifying management, reducing operating costs, and ensuring resiliency with high availability in unpredictable environmental conditions.

“Scale Computing meets the complex and evolving infrastructure requirements of an industry that demands 24×7 availability, full redundancy, and is backed by human experts who understand the unique conditions that exist at the edge,” said Jeff Ready, CEO and co-founder of Scale Computing.

One of the key reasons for the increased adoption of the Scale Computing edge solutions is poor internet connectivity offshore and the need to rely on cloud infrastructure for critical operations, according to executives. Scale Computing’s customer, Northern Marine, a maritime service provider of ship management and offshore management services, recently selected SC Platform to deliver an affordable IT infrastructure in extreme environments. The company also leveraged Scale Computing’s HyperCore to maintain its offshore ship movement operations.

Another Scale Computing maritime client, Telford Offshore, chose the company’s SC Platform to serve the demands of a diverse maritime fleet.

“Scale Computing’s solution operates as its own data center in a box and can easily connect back to the deployment at the headquarters in Dubai,” said Wouter Lustig, IT manager at Telford Offshore. “We are still amazed at how easy it is to install, deploy and manage — we don’t need to worry about the management of the day-to-day solution; it just takes care of itself.”

Scale Computing was also recently selected by UbiStor to help its customers with managed backup and disaster recovery solutions. With the integration of disaster recovery technology, UbiStor customers can now access hybrid cloud data protection services.
