Proximity Edge 7 edge data centers to support The GRID Factory AR/VR experiences

Proximity Data Centres, a UK-based edge data center provider, has announced that The GRID Factory has selected its edge data center facility in Swindon to support their virtual and augmented reality platforms.

The GRID Factory provides consultancy and managed services for Nvidia CloudXR, which include understanding business requirements, providing end-to-end solutions and also services to maintain and improve extended reality (XR) and GPU-accelerated environments. The company also offers development and integration services for the successful creation of ecosystems.

“We are delighted that Proximity is able to support The GRID Factory’s growing needs where the latest high-performance servers and low latency connectivity are a prerequisite for delivering data center-grade, highly immersive XR environments,” said John Hall, managing director of colocation at Proximity Data Centres.

The Proximity Edge 7 edge data center located at Swindon has been designed to provide quick access to the congested data center conurbations of Slough and West London. The facility provides access to digital fiber routes connecting London to Ireland and also the United States. Covering around 89,000 square feet of area, the facility has the capacity of up to 2,000 racks of IT equipment. The Edge 7 edge data center facility provides 7 MW of power availability with the flexibility to expand up to 14 MW.

“As an Immersive Technology Integrator who specializes in Nvidia technologies such as CloudXR, vGPU, Omniverse and EGX Server, we make major demands on data center power, connectivity, and engineering support,” said Ben Jones, founder and CTO at The GRID Factory. “Proximity has ticked all the boxes in this respect when it comes to power availability, scalability, low latency, and onsite support.”

Proximity Edge 7 data center facility is part of the regional edge data center sites in Birmingham, Bridgend, Nottingham, Rugby, Liverpool, Chester Gates and Wakefield. The company also plans to have 20 sites available within the next 12 months.

Proximity Data Centers recently announced that Zayo, a UK-based bandwidth infrastructure provider has completed building a high-capacity fiber network at the Proximity Edge 4 colocation data center in Chester Gates.
