Nutanix Central aims for cloud-to-edge management, metrics

Nutanix, a company specializing in hyper-converged infrastructure and cloud-based management solutions, has introduced Nutanix Central, a hybrid multi-cloud management solution that gives users access to domain and cluster-level metrics. Their goal is to offer organizations a unified platform for effectively managing and monitoring applications across public cloud, on-premises, hosted, or edge infrastructure.

Nutanix recognizes that enterprises are facing challenges in dealing with the growing complexity of hybrid multi-cloud environments as the number of applications grows. This complexity not only contributes to the cost but also raises security concerns. Nutanix claims to address these issues with its Nutanix Central platform, a cloud-based solution that offers management capabilities across endpoints. It also provides security and self-service capabilities to handle multi-cloud environments effectively.

“With Nutanix Central, we will extend our hybrid multicloud platform to deliver a truly universal cloud operating model to include consistent management across public clouds, on-premises, hosted, and edge environments,” says Thomas Cornely, senior vice president of Product Management at Nutanix.

Alongside this announcement, Nutanix has expanded the capabilities of its cloud platform with support for high-performance applications and data with increased security. These improvements include the expansion of database support on the Nutanix Cloud platform to reduce the total cost of ownership for businesses with heavy workloads. Nutanix’s objective is to streamline database management through their Database Services, which accommodate widely used databases such as Microsoft SQL server, MongoDB, MySQL variants, Oracle database, and PostgreSQL.

According to Nutanix, the flexibility of building clusters using various node types is beneficial for managing large-scale databases. By allowing independent scaling of compute and storage, the company says it addresses the issues with efficiency and licensing costs when integrating databases from SANs to their hyper-converged infrastructure.

“As edge computing grows in popularity, the Nutanix Central cloud-delivered management service will help our joint customers monitor and manage these distributed environments with a federated management view,” says Brian Connors, vice president and general manager of Software and Business Development at Lenovo.

Nutanix Cloud platform combines Nutanix Flow Virtual Networking and Flow Network Security with trusted partner solutions such as Palo Alto Networks VM-Series Firewalls to deliver a comprehensive network protection for applications and data. The Nutanix cloud platform secures network deployment and management across clouds providing security against cyber threats.

Nutanix Central can be accessed through the Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure license.
