IAR, Edge Impulse team up to improve AI and ML workflow integration

IAR, a software and service provider for embedded development, announced a partnership with Edge Impulse, an edge AI platform provider.

According to the companies, this collaboration is set to transform the development workflow for embedded developers worldwide by integrating Edge Impulse’s technologies with IAR’s developer solution, IAR Embedded Workbench.

The collaboration aims to streamline the development process, allowing engineers to leverage the power of machine learning (ML) and AI in their applications.

Richard Lind, CEO of IAR, states that the collaboration with Edge Impulse brings ML and AI within reach for their customers.

“Using Edge Impulse with IAR and Arm tooling will enable the world’s best ML model efficiency across over 8,700 Arm targets,” adds Zach Shelby, the co-founder and CEO at Edge Impulse.

For instance, applications that require predictive capabilities can use Edge Impulse’s technologies to generate and evaluate predictive ML models. These models can then be tested for effectiveness and efficiency using real-time or archived data. This collaboration also enables the generation of optimized C/C++ code at any point in the development process, which can then be integrated into the embedded application.

Company executives say the partnership also aims to accelerate innovation and provide the necessary ML capabilities for the next generation of IoT applications across multiple sectors, including industrial automation, smart cities, healthcare and medical fields.

By integrating Edge Impulse’s platform with IAR Embedded Workbench, the executives explain that engineers can save time and improve the code performance of ML workloads, leading to a quicker time-to-market.

IAR Embedded Workbench developers worldwide can access Edge Impulse’s solution as a premium add-on starting in Q4 2023.

This summer, Edge Impulse partnered with Infineon Technologies AG to improve development tools for machine learning models on edge AI-capable microcontrollers. This collaboration allows customers to create customized models or choose from pre-existing models provided by Infineon and its partners.
