Federated Wireless collaborates on spectrum management, private 5G wireless projects

Aura Network Systems has chosen Federated Wireless, Inc, a shared spectrum and private wireless provider, to jointly create a spectrum management system for Aura’s nationwide aviation network. This partnership will help Aura provide reliable connectivity links for crewed and uncrewed applications using greenfield aviation-dedicated spectrum in the ultra-high frequency band of 450 MHz.

“Gaps in command and control cannot occur during BVLOS flights. Reliable, secure, and robust communication is critical to ensure safety between the pilot on the ground and the uncrewed aircraft,” says Bill Tolpegin, the CEO of Aura Network Systems.

Aura will provide reliable data and voice channels in a secure private network, leveraging Aura’s spectrum and advanced technologies to enable commercial BVLOS flight. These features will provide low latency, ultra-reliable, and highly secure connectivity for integrating UAVs into the NAS.

Federated Wireless has achieved a 48% share of the CBRS spectrum marketplace. It continues growing with new deployments across the US, Guam and Puerto Rico. They have also developed an Automated Frequency Coordination (AFC) for the Wi-Fi 6E spectrum and secured agreements with all enterprise access point providers that plan to integrate it into their device platforms. Their spectrum management solutions enable faster private wireless network deployments worldwide and drive digital transformation in various use cases across different market segments.

“We are deeply proud to be selected to bring our spectrum management expertise to Aura’s innovative aviation network,” says Iyad Tarazi, the CEO of Federated Wireless.

Federated Wireless has a large customer base of 450+ customers and 150,000 connected devices across the US and territories. It provides services to various markets such as government, education, energy, manufacturing, MNOs (including Verizon Wireless CBRS 4G/5G), tier-one cable operators and tower companies, and over 100 regional and rural WISPs.

Aura is an FAA-compliant nationwide network provider utilizing licensed aviation spectrum to enable advanced levels of autonomy in the National Airspace System. The company’s 450 MHz band frequencies are ideal for secure and reliable communications, promoting the commercial viability of autonomous operations and improving accessibility and safety, economic expansion and environmental sustainability in air transport.

Federated Wireless, JBG Smith, AWS partner to deploy private wireless for National Landing

Federated Wireless and JBG Smith, an owner and developer of high-quality, mixed-use properties, are deepening their strategic partnership to deploy 5G Private Wireless for National Landing. Federated Wireless will provide tenants access to dedicated private network solutions hosted on AWS Snow and extend functionality to AWS applications and storage.

JBG Smith is a real estate company that owns, invests in, operates and develops mixed-use properties in high-growth and high barrier-to-entry submarkets in and around Washington, DC. Their portfolio comprises office, multifamily and retail assets, with 98% within the metro area.

“We look forward to working with Federated Wireless and AWS to leverage the power of converged digital infrastructure and deliver a unique platform for some of the nation’s most vital institutions,” says Adam Rashid, the SVP of investments and head of digital infrastructure at JBG Smith. “This partnership advances our goals to deliver purpose-built digital infrastructure, allowing innovators to create practical and applied solutions to a wide range of industries.”

As part of JBG Smith’s commitment to investing $25.3 million in the CBRS spectrum, it has partnered with Federated Wireless and several other industry leaders to produce a unified digital infrastructure platform that will deliver network connectivity indoors and outdoors across its National Landing portfolio.

Federated Wireless and JBG Smith are creating a 5G private wireless network in National Landing, which AWS will power. This high-speed, low-latency network will support next-gen tech such as IoT, AI, AR/VR, edge and cloud computing.

“Cloud, Edge, and IoT combined with 5G private wireless represent an incredible opportunity to transform buildings, cities, and citizens’ experience. The game-changer here is that the 5G private wireless network we’re building with JBG Smith and AWS is the catalyst that will bring that reality to life in National Landing,” says Federated’s Tarazi.
