Cologix expands into Iowa market with acquisition of two edge data centers hubs

Cologix has acquired two data center facilities in Iowa from Connect Des Moines. DSM2, situated in the Cedar Valley region of Cedar Falls, Iowa, spans 12,500 square feet and has 1.0 MW of power. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

The company claims that the edge facility, located along key transportation routes, has potential for expansion by an additional 10,000 square feet and is connected to DSM1 via a diverse fiber ring.

Laura Ortman, CEO of Cologix, expresses enthusiasm about the expansion, stating: “We are excited to enter the Des Moines market and bring our industry-leading colocation and interconnection solutions to businesses in Iowa.

“Consistent with our strategy in other markets where we operate, we are first establishing our presence with the carrier hotel in our Iowa portfolio. We will continue to add Scalelogix and digital edge facilities to provide a high performance, low latency and scalable colocation and interconnection platform with access to our robust ecosystem of 700 plus networks, 360 plus cloud providers, 30 plus cloud onramps and seven internet exchanges.”

In addition to acquiring the data centers, Cologix is purchasing land in Des Moines for future expansion.

The acquired data centers, known as DSM1 and DSM2, are now part of the Cologix portfolio. DSM1, located downtown at 666 Walnut Street, offers 4,000 square feet of space and 600kW of power, with connectivity to over 25 networks and direct access to the DesMoinesIX internet exchange.

Ortman highlights the increasing reliance of companies on digital infrastructure and the importance of well-supported data centers, and emphasizes that the Des Moines facilities will offer businesses critical resources to scale their IT infrastructure, enhance performance, and achieve digital transformation goals.

Currently, Cologix provides carrier- and cloud-neutral hyperscale edge data centers and services in 12 markets across North America.

Elsewhere, the company recently introduced dark fiber connectivity at its edge data center facility located in Silicon Valley.
