Cloudflare, Fastly featured in Gartner Magic Quadrant Report for Web Application and API Protection (WAAP)

Cloudflare and Fastly, two web application and API protection solutions, have been recognized by Gartner in the Magic Quadrant Report for Web Application and API Protection (WAAP).

According to Gartner, a Magic Quadrant is a tool that allows organizations to make more informed investment decisions by providing a visual of tech providers’ competitive positioning. A Magic Quadrant uses a set of evaluation criteria to examine four types of technology providers and they include: Leaders, Visionaries, Niche Players and Challengers.

After being evaluated for vision and execution capacity, Cloudflare was recognized in the leader category, while Fastly was deemed a challenger in the report.

Cloudfare’s WAAP portfolio lets organizations achieve greater API and application success, according to the company. Cloudflare’s application security capabilities stop DDoS attacks, bots, and third-party JavaScript attacks while keeping applications and APIs productive.

In response to the news, Cloudfare made the following statement:

“We believe our recognition as a Leader validates that we protect against emerging threats faster, offer tighter integration of WAAP capabilities, and deliver powerful ease of use and deployment. It is also due to the fact our vast global network underpins our portfolio for unparalleled threat intelligence, incredible performance and even Zero Trust security.”

Meanwhile, Fastly said its Web Application Attack Protection (WAAP) platform protects apps by monitoring them in real-time and offering visibility across environments. With the acquisition of the company Signal Sciences in 2020, Fastly says it has increased its security offerings by combining Fastly’s cloud delivery network (CDN) technology with a next-generation web application firewall (WAF).

“Fastly is honored to be positioned in the Challengers quadrant, which, in our opinion, is a recognition of our success in delivering digital experiences at the apex of speed, performance, and safety. We believe this milestone is a testament to our continued focus on efficiently solving web app and API security challenges for our customers,” the company said in a statement.

The Gartner Magic Quadrant Report for WAAP provides a resource for organizations looking to understand emerging application security threats and the WAAP solutions available to defend them. The report includes vendor recognition and key decision-making criteria for WAAP solutions. It also covers the WAAP industry landscape, including a historical perspective and current trends. The report also includes real user reviews of companies.
