Cisco launches Unified Edge Platform to tackle AI’s on-site compute bottleneck

Cisco has unveiled the Unified Edge Platform, combining compute, networking, storage, and security to power real-time AI inferencing and agentic workloads at the edge.

The platform solves infrastructure limitations that have towed AI workloads to be processed as close to the source data generation point as possible – a critical prerequisite for industries including retail, healthcare, and manufacturing.

Unified Edge boasts modular, scalable architecture with CPU/GPU configurations, high-performance SD-WAN, and zero-touch deployment for simple operations.

“Today’s infrastructure can’t meet the demands of powering AI at scale,” says Jeetu Patel, president and chief product officer at Cisco. “As AI agents and experiences proliferate, they will naturally emerge closer to where customers interact and decisions are made – the branch office, retail store, factory floor, stadium, and more. That’s where compute needs to live. With our Unified Edge we’re making it easier to power AI in the real world with flexible, secure systems that are simple to deploy, operate, and scale as demand grows.”

Additionally, it comes embedded with multi-layered zero-trust security that safeguards AI environments from both physical and cybersecurity threats. The platform considers both traditional and AI workloads, agile and protecting investments in line with changing business demands.

Cisco worked with multiple parties to develop the right system for the world’s complex environments and distinct industry instructions. Unified Edge is available for ordering now, with general availability expected before the end of the year.

Cisco and SiMa.ai recently partnered to deliver real-time AI at the industrial edge.
