Versa Networks to bolster DISA’s Thunderdome program with SD-WAN, Zero Trust access

Versa Networks, an AI/ML-powered Unified Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) and Software-Defined WAN (SD-WAN) provider, has been chosen by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) to provide SD-WAN, Zero Trust access and Customer Edge Security Stack (CESS) capabilities for Thunderdome. The partnership enables conditional zero trust access at the network edge for DISA users.

According to Versa, Thunderdome’s components collaborate to modernize DISA’s infrastructure and integrate with other agency initiatives, enhancing automation, efficiency and security. Versa’s SD-WAN functions enable software-defined routing across DISN, while its CESS functions deliver Next Generation Firewall (NGFW), IPS/IDS and on-premises ZTNA services.

DISA’s Thunderdome is an architecture that leverages commercial technologies like SASE, CESS, and Application Security Stacks to enhance security and network performance in enterprise environments.

DISA has awarded Booz Allen Hamilton a follow-on production Other Transaction Authority (OTA) agreement for Thunderdome following the successful completion of a prototype.

Versa notes that DISA’s Thunderdome solution aligns with federal cybersecurity modernization efforts, including the U.S. President’s Executive Order on Improving the Nation’s Cybersecurity, the DoD Zero Trust Strategy and Roadmap and the DoD CIO’s Digital Modernization Strategy.

According to Imran Umar, vice president of Booz Allen’s zero trust practice, says: “Organizations around the world are embracing the tenets of zero trust, DISA is truly pioneering the deployment of zero trust network access for both remote and on-premises users.”

Versa’s AI/ML-powered Unified SASE platform offers services such as secure SD-WAN, next-generation firewalls, and cloud network firewalls. With integration and centralized management, Versa says it aims to simplify network security and enable efficient policy enforcement.

Versa Networks says it offers networking and security with multitenancy, analytics and flexibility in deployment options. Versa Networks provides solutions for small to large enterprises and service providers, serving thousands of customers worldwide.
