Sunlight wins awards for edge AI deployments

Sunlight.io was announced as the winner of the ‘Best Cloud or Networking Automation Tool’ by the AI and Machine Learning Awards for simplifying the deployment and management of artificial intelligence (AI) applications on the edge.

The company’s hyperconverged infrastructure stack (HCI) won the category that recognizes, “an innovative and fully featured automation solution that is designed to ease the burden of cloud or network management.”

A panel of judges assembled by Computing, a British technology news website that arranged the awards, gave Sunlight the recognition for, “addressing a challenging area that is even further removed from visibility than normal IT, but no less important.” By fully automating deployment, Computing says Sunlight enabled software-as-a-service models at the edge of a network.

Julian Chesterfield, founder and CEO of Sunlight, says “We are delighted to be recognized for our contribution to AI and ML development. Sunlight works with enterprises and application software vendors to deploy applications in remote places where they couldn’t previously run effectively or efficiently.”

He adds, “Providing the ability to process huge amounts of data and run AI algorithms to generate real-time insight-to-action, for example, on a tiny server based in an oil rig in the middle of the Atlantic sea, has been a goal of ours since building Sunlight’s NexVisor technology which was born out of a collaboration with Arm back in 2013.”

Sunlight nabs innovation award at DCS Awards 2022

Sunlight has added to its awards haul with an Edge Innovation of the Year category win at the DCS Awards 2022. The Sunlight-powered Lenovo SE350 edge solution was the winning entry. Sunlight describes the combined products as ideal for data-intensive applications at the edge, such as IoT and AI, due to their small footprint and high performance.

Lenovo’s demo lab in Stuttgart, Germany certified compatibility and identified additional benefits including:

  • Ease of deployment: The complete Sunlight HCI stack can be installed on the SE350 in under an hour.
  • Compute efficiency: Sunlight memory overhead was less than 5% of total system resources, which leaves more memory applications.
  • High performance: Storage performance available to virtual machines was nearly 2M IOPS across a two node cluster.

In 2021, Sunlight won the ‘Hyper-Convergence Innovation of the Year’ given by the SDC Awards for its original equipment manufacturer partnership with Altos Computing.
