New research exposes gaps as edge AI becomes mission-critical

New research by Techstrong Group in collaboration with Latent AI finds that edge AI is becoming essential for mission-critical operations due to its speed, reliability, and ability to process data in real-time, unlike cloud systems.
Organizations are prioritizing performance (51%) and reliability (39%) over cost savings (35%) for edge AI deployments.
Edge AI is crucial for applications like autonomous drones and industrial sensors where even millisecond delays can lead to failure. Challenges include dissatisfaction with current tools (52%), the need for customized solutions (95%), and talent shortages (34%).
“This research validates what we’ve observed in the market: organizations recognize that edge AI offers critical performance advantages for time-sensitive applications, but they’re struggling with implementation due to expertise gaps and inadequate tools,” says Jags Kandasamy, CEO and Co-founder of Latent AI. “The battlefield and factory floor share a common need: intelligence that responds in milliseconds, not seconds. When life, equipment, or critical infrastructure is at stake, waiting for cloud servers to process and return data isn’t just inefficient, it’s potentially catastrophic. Edge AI isn’t just an architectural choice; it’s becoming an operational necessity for organizations where performance means survival.”
Hybrid strategies combining cloud-based development with edge optimization are gaining traction, reducing complexity and deployment times by up to 73%. Automated tools and familiar cloud workflows are helping organizations overcome edge AI implementation barriers.
Accelerating time to market is critical, with 61% of organizations citing long implementation cycles as a major issue. Read the full report here.
