Intertrust, Eipgrid team up to develop secure virtual power plant platform

Innovators in secure distributed computing and energy networks come together to develop a highly secure virtual power plant platform, allowing efficient coordination of cost-effective clean energy.

Intertrust, a distributed computing and rights management tech provider, and Eipgrid, a distributed energy resource management provider, have partnered to deliver a secure, efficient digital energy platform.

The companies say it provides globally distributed energy resource management (DERM) and virtual power plant (VPP) capabilities to energy companies and end users and aims to help mitigate the current energy crisis.

“Eipgrid recognizes that VPPs are useless if compromised or when they leak data,” said Intertrust CEO Talal G. Shamoon. “We’re delighted to partner with Eipgrid to support their platform with a secure, distributed management system that brings clean, cost-effective energy to global customers.”

Using AI technology, DERM and VPP technologies effectively synchronize supply with demand while optimizing energy usage. According to the companies, Intertrust PlatformTM offers advanced authentication and data management features. It empowers DERM/VPP platforms to accommodate various devices securely, combines information from multiple vendors and complies with international regulations, the companies say.

“Without robust security and authentication, VPPs are ripe for malicious attacks and data breaches, ” said Tony Lee, the CEO of Eipgrid.

Intertrust Platform protects devices and data sets using a hyperscale IoT authentication technology called XPN. This tech provides end-to-end, persistent security and data governance capabilities, the company says.

“With Intertrust Platform, we can seamlessly support a large number of secure, distributed endpoint devices and data sets in their implementations. The result is best-in-class trust, security, and energy efficiency for our customers,” added Lee.

Eipgrid Inc is an energy services and solutions provider based in Seoul, South Korea, offering a product line to support all energy market players. The company’s technology powered by AI helps maximize profits through optimal power management and access to various business applications such as Demand Response, Solar, Energy Storage, EV and Micro.

Intertrust is a computing company founded in 1990 that provides products and services to global corporations. Its specialty is digital rights management and technologies for private data exchanges. It holds hundreds of patents related to internet security, trust, and privacy management components and has offices in Silicon Valley and other regions around the globe.

In January, Intertrust teamed up with Music Securities to devise a more transparent and democratic music rights marketplace, the company says. They plan to launch the service in the spring of 2023.
