EdgeConneX enters Indonesian market with data center acquisition
EdgeConneX announces that it acquired the GTN Data Center in Indonesia, continuing its Asian market expansion plans.
A press release from EdgeConneX says the GTN Data Center is located in Bekasi Cikarang, part of greater Jakarta. It was founded as a joint venture between Mitsui and PT Multipolar Technology, a part of Indonesian conglomerate Lippo Group. EdgeConneX also says it acquired a parcel of land adjacent to the GTN Data Center with the intent to possibly build a hyperscale data center campus with up to 90-megawatts of capacity in the future.
EdgeConneX says Jakarta is a market experiencing rapid growth driven by cloud adoption, which highlights the importance of reliable hyperscale digital infrastructure to meet the digital transformation of Indonesia. It also cites market analysis from Structure Research that predicts the country will grow into an almost $650 million data center market by 2026, with nearly two-thirds from hyperscaler demand.
It is the third major Asian market the company has entered, joined by its investment in China’s Chayora and plans to build the AdaniConneX data center in India. It also made three executive hires in January 2022 to provide leadership on its global growth strategy.
“Our legacy is being able to successfully and quickly deliver data center infrastructure at the Edge,” comments Kelvin Fong, managing director of APAC at EdgeConneX. “As we continue to expand both our Edge and hyperscale data center platform globally, the planned hyperscale data center campus in Jakarta will give us capabilities to meet our customers’ requirements for capacity in this vital and growing market in the APAC region.”
